/ About Us
“If you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never have it. If you don’t ask, the answer is always no. If you don’t step forward, you’re always in the same place.”
— Nora Roberts
Inspired by the words of novelist Nora Roberts, Bonita Gooch, owner of the only Black news media in Kansas,, recognized the opportunity for the African American community throughout Kansas to step forward and ask for the change they needed.
The Work
Our vision is big, but not insurmountable. Together, we can bring the change we seek, and we have a plan. Our work will encompass 4 areas of activity:
Resources
Supplied with the knowledge from our research, we will create materials that supply the Black community throughout Kansas with the resources they need. We will use our communication pipeline to distribute the most up-to-date information, enabling Black Kansans to advance their health, wealth, housing and prosperity goals.
Our Mission
To advance meaningful change for Black or African Americans living in Kansas today, while also changing historical systems that have traditionally harmed Black Health, Wealth and Prosperity, allowing Kansans to achieve an equitable future.
